In The Bauhaus Kitchen

Bauhaus 100

What if we could recreate the spirit of the Bauhaus through a dinner? This question inspired In the Bauhaus Kitchen, a documentary film exploring the intersections between art, design and gastronomy in a unique visual and sensory experience.

It all began with Nicholas Fox Weber's essay "In The Bauhaus Kitchen" and the idea of celebrating the centenary of the iconic German school through gastronomy. Elsa Yranzo and Sebastian Alberdi asked themselves how food rituals had been central to the Bauhaus, and decided to recreate that essence.

The perfect setting was the Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Mies van der Rohe—the Bauhaus's last director—and Lilly Reich for the 1929 International Exposition. A coincidence that revealed itself as destiny.

With the sponsorship of The Josef & Anni Albers Foundation, they brought together Barcelona's most outstanding professionals: chefs, designers, artisans, poets, filmmakers, sculptors, photographers, stylists and musicians. Each team received keywords drawn from the original essay—gastronomic ingredients, specific materials, Bauhaus values—that became the inspiration for their creations.

The result: a gastronomic experience divided into cinematic sequences that carried 18 guests on a three-hour sensory journey into the essence of the Bauhaus. A table turned into a stage for living art, full of emotion, surprise and discovery.

Every moment of the process—work sessions, experiments, the final experience on October 20th—was captured on camera. Together with director Joan Simó, they created a documentary film that premiered on February 26th at the Auditorium of the Barcelona Design Museum Hub.
