Design and production of a gastronomic artistic intervention to kick off the Manifesta15 art biennial.
A collective statement for ecosocial transition seeking to recover, reimagine and revitalise the three chimneys as an emblematic, historic space of Barcelona. To this end, we conceived an element representing us as human beings from a global, humanist perspective: a great banner symbolising the community's new local perspectives and the city's ever-evolving stories.
A new type of banner that we blurred, deconstructed and fed on—literally, we ate it.
To honour the idiosyncrasy of the unique space we occupied, we used the number three to represent the three chimneys. This trinity served as the basis for building the installation and was linked to the biennial's three concepts: RECOVER, REIMAGINE AND REVITALISE, represented through three ingredients displayed on three totems.
Our proposal also sought to break and transform the great concrete slab that symbolises Barcelona's archaic idea of the city. This action took shape in a large table full of biscuits representing that slab—a material so cold and dehumanised, so present in our urban fabric—which guests ate alongside the three ingredients presented on the totems.
The climax came in the collective act of undoing, eating and making the edible banner disappear together, thus kicking off the biennial.
