La Imperfecta Belleza

Editions 1, 2 & 3

La Imperfecta Belleza was a trilogy of event-experiences exploring our relationship with beauty standards, perfection and whatever we decide to call imperfect. Across three experiences, the project progressively widened its gaze: from food to the body, and from the body to the planet.

The first experience, La Imperfecta Belleza No. 1, questioned the aesthetic standards we apply to food and how fruits and vegetables that do not match a certain idea of perfection are discarded before they even reach our table. The third, La Imperfecta Belleza No. 3, moved the reflection from the body to the planet, exploring our relationship with plastic as an artificial second skin created to protect us that has, paradoxically, become a threat to our environment.

Between the two, La Imperfecta Belleza No. 2 brought the question to the closest place we have: our own body. Is there beauty in supposed imperfection? And why did we decide to call it that? The experience took skin as its thread. Our largest organ. The tissue that protects us, but also the canvas on which all our stories are written. Skin changes with us. It marks, transforms and evolves over time. It keeps the trace of our experiences, our falls and our victories too. Every wrinkle, every scar, every spot or change in texture speaks of something we have lived. The body is a shifting landscape. Skin is the narrator of its story.

La Imperfecta Belleza No. 2 established a dialogue between different skins: human skin and the skin of food. Through this parallel, it questioned why certain marks, shapes or textures are considered defects, and reclaimed the beauty of what we have conventionally learned to call “ugly”. The reflection took shape as a gastro-artistic experience that could be walked through, observed, touched and also eaten. An itinerary of photography, imperfect vegetable pieces, projections, interactive installations and gastronomic proposals created from produce discarded for its appearance. An invitation to look differently. To understand that every supposed imperfection may in fact be what makes us unique.
